University of Westminster alumna Joanne Griffith has been honoured as one of the Top 25 Women Chief Content Officers of 2025 by Women We Admire, recognising her contributions to the media industry and her role in shaping content strategies.

Women We Admire's annual list celebrates the achievements of women who have excelled in the role of Chief Content Officer. These leaders are responsible for guiding comprehensive communication strategies and collaborating closely with marketing teams to execute integrated, multi-channel campaigns.
Joanne obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Westminster in 1997. She then attended Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, where she completed an executive leadership programme.
Joanne currently serves as a Chief Content Officer for American Public Media (APM) where she oversees content and audience growth strategy for broadcast and podcasts for two of APM’s brands. APM is renowned for producing and distributing award-winning public radio programming and podcasts and her leadership has been instrumental in maintaining its high standards.
In addition to her role at APM Studios and Marketplace, Joanne is the Founder of En(title)d!, a conversation and coaching space dedicated to supporting leaders in the media industry.
Joanne’s experience spans multiple areas of media production, from reporting and hosting to producing and editing at a variety of organisations and channels in the United States and in the UK such as LAist/Southern California Public Radio, National Public Radio, ESPN’s 30 for 30, BBC News, BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC London. She has also led collaborations as Managing Editor of National Public Radio’s California Newsroom.
Jim Grice, Lecturer at the Westminster School of Media and Communication, commented: “It is really exciting to see our former students do so well in their chosen field. I am sure Joanne’s achievement will inspire Westminster’s current students and show them that they too can go on and achieve great things in journalism and other digital media industries too.”
Joanne shared “A strong foundation in any career will help you succeed. I’m grateful to my teachers at the University of Westminster for showing me how to write and think in sound while always centring the audience. These are skills I continue to share with mentees and students.”
Joanne’s work within the world of journalism directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5: Gender Equality and 10: Reduced Inequalities. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
